Ed Sheeran’s manager of seven years is going indie, and he’s keeping the “Shape of You” superstar as a client. Stuart Camp’s Grumpy Old Management has broken off from a joint venture with Rocket Music, the management firm co-founded by Elton John, the legendary rocker confirmed in a statement.

“After many incredible years of working together I would like to wish a heartfelt and fond farewell to Ed, Stuart and his team, with whom we have shared some amazing moments,” said John. “It has been a very rewarding and exciting experience supporting them through their fantastic journey.”

John drove home the amicableness of the separation by adding, “We are immensely proud of all our achievements together and look forward to seeing Stu’s company and Ed’s success go from strength to strength.”

Camp joined Rocket in 2007, following years at Atlantic, and signed Sheeran in 2011 ahead of his debut album + (Plus), which yielded the hit single “The A Team.” Sheeran and John went on to perform the song together at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Since then, Sheeran and Camp have been busy breaking records together. Last year, the singer became the first to debut two songs in the Hot 100 top 10 in the same week, with “Castle on the Hill” and “Shape of You,” which held the No. 1 spot for 12 weeks. His third studio album, ÷ (Divide), was also the No. 1 album of the year in overall consumption.

Camp launched London-based Grumpy Old Management in November 2014 as a JV with Rocket. “Rocket was a great home to me for 10 years,” said Camp in a statement to Music Week. “With invaluable support and care from Elton and everyone there, which I will always be grateful for.”

Rocket Music’s remaining clients include Rag’N’Bone Man, 2Cellos, Anne-Marie, Chris Difford and, naturally, Elton John, who recently announced a three-year farewell tour.

Camp recently made his debut on Billboard’s Power 100 list, at No. 35.

STUART CAMP, 44

Manager, Ed Sheeran

Last Year’s Rank: New

DIVIDE CONQUERED: As Ed Sheeran’s longtime manager, Camp has become accustomed to his artist setting and breaking records, and 2017 was no different. The singer-songwriter – Billboard’s top artist of 2017 – became the first to debut two songs in the Hot 100 top 10 in the same week, with “Castle on the Hill” and “Shape of You,” which held the No. 1 spot for 12 weeks. His third studio album, ÷ (Divide), was also the No. 1 album of the year in overall consumption.

AND THAT’S NOT THE END OF IT: “Although we are nearing the end of the traditional album life cycle in terms of singles, our touring is just gearing up with stadium shows worldwide this year, which will see Ed’s reach hit its highest level,” says Camp.

TV SHOW THAT RECENTLY INSPIRED HIM: “I’m a sucker for Stranger Things. I was in my early teens in the mid-‘80s, so they have me hook, line and sinker.”
